Can you guess what they are yet!?
I don't profess to be any kind of crafty or crafting expert, but I do like to make things for people. So, this Christmas I have decided to make brooches for some of the lovely ladies in my family.
I'm really happy with the way they have turned out.
They are made from 100% wool felt, scraps of fabric and buttons from my button tin (those buttons you get in the little plastic bags attached to new purchases, are all my collection consists of. You'd be surprised how easily they build up!).
I cut a diamond template out of a cereal box. I used a ruler and everything, which is very unlike me. I drew around my template on the felt and fabric. I cut the felt out with fabric scissors and the fabric with pinking shears to stop too much fraying and to add a different shape to the brooch.
I hand sewed a brooch back on to the back of the largest felt piece. I got the brooch backs very inexpensively off amazon.
I placed the other two layers, positioned the button where I wanted and sewed through from the back up into the button and down again. I did this two to three times.
Et, voila!
I think they will look really great on a coat collar, adding a splash of colour to the usual blacks, browns and greys of winter coats.
Have you been handmaking any of your Christmas gifts?
