Treasure.

I recently inherited something that I consider real treasure.

It's not your usual treasure of metallic colours or paper notes.

It's something much, much more special.

It's made from an old curtain, I think, reinforced with binding and sewn into place with curious red stitches...

It's a lovely knitting needle wrap, complete with all the knitting needles a person could ever, ever want. I love it.

I love all the different colours of the needles and the fact that it's not perfect and that is has been used, most likely for practical purposes, like knitting socks because your daughter needed a new pair, re-knitting a jumper from wool you had carefully undone from Dad's old jumper with too many holes to mend.  This little wonder goes back many a decade to the make do and mend era and it looks proud to have served.

I am very much (still) a beginner knitter, taught by my kind and patient friend Kat.

Scarfs and snoods are about it for me, but I am really hoping to get better and what better inspiration that this. I will never be able to use the oft spoken excuse of not having the right needles.

Everyone I haven't already knitted a scarf for will be getting one this festive season... I will work up to something more spectacular for next year. I promise.
